| National Stadium, (Hampden Park) The National Stadium is located in the south of Glasgow, to the west of Rutherglen.Although home to Scottish League Football team Queen's Park, Hampden Park also acts as the National Stadium for Scotland and as such is the venue to Scotland's home football internationals. Built in 1903 at a cost of £10,000, Hampden was designed in the same shape as Ibrox and Celtic Park being oval in construction. In 1937, with the construction of the North Stand the capacity stood at an astounding 180,000 making it the largest stadium in the world at that time. Between 1981 and 1986, the North Stand was demolished and the East terracing was replaced. These stands were further refurbished in 1994 and a new south stand was built 1996-8. With a total of £63 million having been spent, including £23 million from the Millennium Commission, the resulting 52,000 seater stadium was opened in 1999. |
| Getting Tickets for Matches By far the easiest way is to be a member of the Scotland Travel Club. As an STC member, you are given priority in application for all sections of the ground for home games and the Scotland Travel Club reserved areas for away matches. Only STC Members may purchase tickets for away matches. If you are not an STC member, it is still possible to get tickets for home games once they go on public sale. Home ticket prices are generally between 10 and 20 pounds for a seat at home games, depending on area selected. There are usually family sections as well costing about 10 pounds per adult and 3 or 4 pounds per child. Away ticket prices vary dramatically, especially when matches are to take place in the Eastern bloc (or ex-Eastern bloc as they prefer to be known). Tickets are normally available locally for a fraction of the £15 or £20 that are charged when Western European teams visit. When on Public sale, tickets can be often be purchased in person from the following outlets on weekdays : Scotball Travel & Liesure Ltd, 5 Park Gardens, Glasgow - Tel: 0141-616-6000 Counter sales at: The Ticket Centre, Candleriggs, Glasgow (also telephone credit card sales on 0141-287-5000) Virgin Records, Princes Street, Edinburgh Virgin Records, Argyle Street, Glasgow Record Market, Broomlands Street, Paisley The above outlets can vary, depending on the match and the level of publicity (or not!!) that the SFA has put in. | Scottish Football Museum, Glasgow North of the border in a country synonymous with the beautiful game, football fans will find the Scottish Football Museum located within the national Hampden Park stadium. Exhibits trace the history of football from the viewpoint of a nation that played an essential part in the game's development. Through interactive displays the museum looks at the social development of football from its move into professionalism to its growth into a multi-million pound industry and examines the one thing that has never changed, the relationship between a fan and their team. The museum contains artefacts from the history of the Scottish national team including a ticket to the first ever international match against the 'Auld Enemy' and shirts worn by such legends as Denis Law and Kenny Dalglish.
