UEFA has refuted claims that the majority of tickets made available for next month's UEFA Champions League final in Glasgow will not be available for supporters. Reply to allegationsEuropean football's governing body was replying to claims that that it was giving more than half of the tickets for the final to people not directly concerned with the match, such as VIPs and sponsors. Clarifying the issue of ticket distribution for European club football's most prestigious match, UEFA said that the matter had to start from the basis that the capacity of Glasgow's Hampden Park stadium is 51,465. Available ticketsOnce media seating and obstructed view/security seats have been deducted, a total of 47,870 tickets are available. Football fans - the finalists, plus the general public - will receive 72 per cent of this total. The two finalists are being allocated 14,114 tickets each, a total of 28,228 tickets, and the general public 6,137 tickets. Football familyThe 'football family', said UEFA, comprising the Scottish Football Association, UEFA, FIFA, national associations and European clubs, will receive 18 per cent, while sponsors and broadcasters who help finance the UEFA Champions League will receive the other 10 per cent. Obstructed view seats are not available for sale and will be used by staff and performers at the match. Sale not finalisedUEFA emphasised that the sale of tickets to the general public has not yet been finalised, and that almost 52,000 tickets have been requested. The despatch of tickets will start at the beginning of May. No tickets to agenciesNo tickets, added UEFA, have been distributed to agencies or other organisations outside the football family. All tickets will bear an indication of the ticket holder and cannot be resold. Supporters are also warned by UEFA that stringent ticket controls will be in place for Glasgow, and fans should not accept tickets offered by agencies, or through unauthorised Internet sales or auctions. Name on the ticketThe name of the party allocated the tickets in the first instance - club, sponsor, UEFA, etc - will appear on the ticket. In the case of tickets sold via public sale, the name of the ticket applicant will appear on the ticket. This will enable UEFA and the Scottish FA to instigate a checking system which allows tickets which are misused to be traced back to the original source.
