Fifa's founding members had talked about the idea of a World Football tournament as early as 1904.However it wasn’t until the 1920's that the concept really gained any momentum. Football was at this time already part of the Olympic games, when two Frenchmen, Jules Rimet and Henri Delauney believed that the game should be introduced
as a separate Global tournament. As Fifa President and Secretary, the two great men set about getting Football's greatest show on the road. As we see from the table below, Uruguay was where it all began, the year 1930.The "coup du monde" / The World Cup is born.

Jules Rimet was born October 14, 1873 at Theuley-les Lavoncourt, France, died October 16, 1956, was president of the French Football Federation from 1919 to 1945 and of FIFA from 1921 to 1954. On Rimet's initiative, the first Football World Cup was held in 1930 . The Jules Rimet Trophy was named in his honour.
